Huh... we've been thinking of this effecting a Syracuse, p*tt or rutgers. Do you think this move will prevent ND from moving to the big 10?

ND basically has unlimited funds unfortunately, so if they want to bolt, they'll bolt....but since ND is a Big East member in all other sports are they not also held to this?

The Big East exit fee is $5 million, and the Big Ten entry fee is $10 million. That, however, is not just simply transferring a total of $15 million into the two bank accounts. The Big Ten will likely have a buy-in in the form of drastically lowered revenue for the new member over the first decade or so of Big Ten membership. We can't really tell if it's a positive move financially without the specific revenue numbers. From where I'm sitting, it doesn't look as good as advertised. The new member could win the Big Ten in its first year of play, yet have a smaller revenue share than the #6 team in the league, depending on how much the league cuts that revenue.

Some of the other BCS leagues are coming up on their TV contract renewals. If the Big East can cut a good deal (and it should be able to, as we do draw a decent audience), it could influence one of our programs to stay in the league.

I really really really believe that ND might be persuaded to become a fell member. In my "Damn I wish i could alter reality" scenario, I have ND becoming a full member... BC coming back so it can have dirty catholic fantasies with ND. That takes us to 10 teams in the league for football and 17 for basketball. We get two CUSA teams (ECU, UCF) or somehow, someway convince VT and Miami to come back (which is about as likely to happen as me having a tiny weiner... ;-)... ladies).

So, with that gets us to twelve in football. However, that also puts us at 19 for basketball... which is a really crappy number. This is where I have trouble.... do you keep the 19 and only allow the top 16 to play in the BE tourney or do you shave a few teams off the bottom? Well... It's gotta be the former. I mean, DePaul could well be shown the door (cough cough YOU SUCK) but considering that our conference is run by gentlemen that regularly hump the mascot from Providence on a bed made of basketballs (get what I did there?) I doubt your going to see some major transition on the basketball front. so maybe we create the Mexican car crossing the border of basketball league's with 19 members (I can't even think of any conference in any sport that is that big, though.)

Well.. that was wordy... maybe it makes up for how quiet i usually am on the boards.

That makes sense.

Me personally i would love the acc, being able to go to all the away games due to the proximity of everyone that we would be in a division with.

I wouldn't take what Pastilong says, I'd probably take it with a grain of salt. But in reality I don't really care unless something actually comes up and happen, we are all just getting worked up over semantics and rumors. No one knows what the hell the Big 10/11 will do let alone what they are thinking give it a few years an the truth will finally come out, as well as set you free. I see the BE staying intact for a few more years then possibly being raided, other then that I think by then the BE will finally have seen the picture an have made some moves to keep the BE together. This is all opinion and speculation on whether or not  the Big 10/11 does raid the BE for teams to expand, an I seriously don't see them going to 13 teams, why would you have an uneven number of teams in a conference..  rotflol

As far as success goes, I think if the p*tt ND move would happen, that it would be better to go to the ACC. We would be a top tier FB program anually, and I think over all the ACC is consistantly slightly a better BB conference. I do hate the ACC though, and am holding hope that the Big East boat stays afloat. Since the ACC raid as far as football is concerned, it is practically the house that Pat built.

As I understand the situation, ND would not be held to the Big East exit payout because it is not a full conference member.  Similarly, Villanova, who is not a BE football member, would not be held to these numbers if it left the BE for another conference.

I seriously doubt these numbers will keep these schools from going anywhere.  Last year p*tt brought home less than $4 million in total revenues from the conference TV deals.  If they move to an expanded Big 10, they would likely see over $10 million a year even AFTER the revenue reduction they take for being new.

Case in point:  Each SEC school got $35 million last year.  The Big 12 did $21 million each.  The Big 10, WITHOUT a conference championship game, did slightly better with $22 million (on average) each.

Add in a conference title game and you can expect the Big 10 to come closer to $30 million per school after expansion.

Any school from the BE who has a chance to go to the Big 10 WILL take that invite, in a second, regardless of what the penalty provisions are in the BE contract.  It just makes dollars and sense.

If WVU has any brains, it is currently securing other options, because I'd put the chances of the BE folding as a major football conference in the next 5 years at better than 90%.
