The first Pinstripe Bowl will be played at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 30 and will be televised by ESPN.

The game will include the No. 3 team in the Big East and the No. 6 school in the Big 12, excluding Bowl Championship Series participants.

ESPN agreed to a six-year contract, the Yankees said Tuesday, and New Era Cap Co. Inc. agreed to a four-year deal to be the title sponsor. Future games will be played no earlier than Christmas and no later than New Year's Day.

This will be the first bowl game at Yankee Stadium since Nebraska defeated Miami 36-34 at old Yankee Stadium on Dec. 15, 1962.

The first football game at the new $1.5 billion stadium will be Nov. 20, when Notre Dame plays Army.

The whole "going to play an outdoor game in a baseball stadium in winter" part of this makes me LOL.

But you gotta admit.  I bet it makes plenty of money.  I have a feeling people will watch.

I love this idea......for once a team from the north may have some advantage. All the bowl games are always in the south or in a dome usually with the exception of the bowl in Canada that no one cares about. I hope it snows for this game. It will be football the way it used to be.

The official name is "Pinstripe Bowl".  I guess it could of been worse and they could of just called it the "New York Yankee Bowl".

I agree--it would be a fun trip but it's name is lame for sure.

ya Im sure par tof the deal was the Yankees picked the name or had most of the input.  Just be thankful its not Yankee Bowl, or Jeter Bowl, or Steinbrenner is God Bowl

Bigappleersfan Bowl would have been much better.   wink

But I'm super thrilled about this, obviously, and if WVU ever finishes low enough to be in it...it would be a nice "consolation" prize for me to have them play in my city.

I feel the same way 67.  That's why I would call it the "consolation" prize.  We would get a lot of of fans here though.  It's crawling with gold & blue up here for BE this week.  I love it.

Nice they have faith that there will be a Big East FB Conference (or some semblance thereof) down the road a piece. Are the Rockettes still doing their Christmas show at RCMH on the 30th?? Great to have a bowl to call our own though.  roll eyes

There are so many bowls we need to consider who doesn't make a bowl. Not who is in a bowl. LOL. A joke guys.
